Sony doesn't seem to be pausing to dance on the grave of HD DVD; at NAB Show 2008, the company unveiled a pro-level encoding solution for Blu-ray Discs: the BAE-VX1000. The device — said to offer a 30-percent speed-up over the existing BAE-VA700 — delivers realtime encoding of MPEG-2 or H.264/AVC primary and secondary video streams designed for the Blu-ray Disc format. Smaller production houses should like it because the VX1000 can work with a fairly low-end single-PC configuration yet churn out AVC encoding in realtime.
