Speedier HD compression

The latest advances in ASIC technology are taking the tedium out of encoding HD. Bluefish444, for example, uses Aspex's new Accelara HD MPEG-2 encoder PCI-X card in its Rage N|Code product to deliver faster-than-realtime HD (1920×1080i60) encoding.

Such speed makes it a good choice for HD archiving, HD MPEG-2 export from programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro and Autodesk Cleaner XL, multichannel SD ingest, live streaming apps, and authoring with the new HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats.

Based upon the Bluefish444 HD|Fury single-link HD/SD SDI I/O card, as well as the company's Symmetry acquisition, review, and playout software, Rage N|Code can be updated via software to provide an upgrade path to additional codecs such as MPEG-4 and Windows Media/VC1.
