Addressing more capable hardware available today, the need for codec updates, and a range of other enhancements, Sorenson Media has started delivering version 5 of its Squeeze software suite. The products (Sorenson 5, Squeeze 5 Pro, Squeeze 5 for Flash, and Squeeze 5 for Flash Pro) run faster and offer improved audio and video quality, as well as a larger roster of preprocessing options. Much of the speed improvement comes with the ability to now process multiple files simultaneously on computers with multiple cores. The company reports “significant” quality improvements handling HD for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and H.264 encoders. Meanwhile, new video preprocessing filters include Watermark, Hue and Saturation, and Sharpen.
