While it's pretty easy to build your own website these days, things get complicated if you want to include streaming video. It's even more difficult if you want that video to control web page items — such as still images and text — at the same time. Not so if you use programs such as sofTV.net's sofTV.Author, recently updated to v2.0, which provides a straightforward GUI to create web pages with embedded streaming video. The company, a division of Ottawa-based XStream Software, speeds production with its template-based design tool so you don't have to figure things out from scratch. The authoring software works with both on-demand and live video sources, and it supports both Real and Microsoft streaming formats.
