Encoding video for newsgathering and other live events makes for a tough mix of challenges for encoding hardware. Fast motion — whether in sports or breaking news — ideally has access to as much bandwidth as necessary to capture a good image, but working with satellite transmission or over low-bandwidth links limits that. According to Fujitsu Computer, these are just the sorts of conditions its IP-9500e MPEG-4 AVC encoder handles well. The new motion-latency mode in the Revision 3.0 firmware has been optimized for transmitting rapid-motion video, even when dealing with the low data rates inherent in most field production.
