Shared workflow gains

Sharing media across facilities turns out to be a big theme of the 2008 releases of Autodesk's lineup (Inferno, Flame, and Flint for visual effects; Fire and Smoke to handle editing and finishing). Key to that capability: Each product is now available on Linux-based PCs, which should make the products accessible to more markets. The company cites improved interoperability with third-party apps as well as 100-percent clip compatibility across the complete Autodesk line. In addition, the 2008 releases feature an updated user interface (UI), which the company speculates should make it easier for artists to switch between the various programs. OpenEXR support, as well as enhanced Autodesk FBX software support, improves the interoperability between Autodesk Flame and Maya software. www.autodesk.com
