Even with speedier workstations, piling on the effects can slow down editing interactivity. That's one reason why Red Giant Software's Magic Bullet Editors 2 Look Suite plug-in might be of interest. When paired with one of the latest sub-$500 graphics cards, such as Nvidia's smoking GeForce 7800 GT, the Look Suite now runs up to 12X faster than the CPU alone, according to the company. That allows users to do realtime film look treatments on the desktop in standard definition.
The suite offers 16 plug-ins, including Look Suite, a tool for mimicking various film processes and shooting styles; MB De-artifacter, a new plug-in for cleaning up DV and HDV chroma problems; and Misfire plug-ins for generating a wide variety of damaged film characteristics.
