NAS for Post
While a SAN-style architecture is usually considered ideal for sharing networked storage, there are good reasons to consider network-attached storage. For starters, there's no need for specialized hardware or software to access material from the editing stations. Also, most operating systems work with NAS without a lot of fussing around.
At IBC 2005, Maximum Throughput delivered Sledgehammer NLS, an NAS initially designed for Final Cut Pro users, with Windows support to follow. There's an aggregate, sustained throughput level of greater than 300MBps, which supports up to 20 concurrent users utilizing dual streams of DV25 content or alternatively up to 10 concurrent users for DV50 content. For SD video, Sledgehammer NLS supports up to three concurrent users for dual-stream playback.
The new NAS introduces Max T's SmartAccess technology, which allows NLE systems access to centralized content, while supporting realtime media streaming over a Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure.
The company also announced Xstoner 2 client software for Mac OS X systems and Xstoner 2 server software for Irix- and Linux-based Autodesk editing and effects systems. www.max-t.com
