This summer HP released its new top-end workstation designed for video editing and digital content creation. The xw8400 is perfect for 3D work, with options for the strongest professional PCI Express graphics cards (ATI FireGL and Nvidia Quadro FX) and vast expanses of RAM (fully buffered DIMMs in configurations up to 32GB). It's also a civilized machine for edit suites, with quieter circuitry that allows fans to run at lower speeds and acoustic-dampening hard drive rails to minimize vibration.
The xw8400 uses one or two dual-core Intel Xeon processors in the 5000 sequence. In terms of onboard storage, the system fits up to five SATA drives (up to 500GB each) or four serial-attached SCSI drives (up to 300GB each, with an integrated SAS controller included). www.hp.com/workstations
