HDMI-over-Cat-5 Distribution Amplifiers
One benefit of the increased use of HDMI as an interface for large monitors: The thinner wiring employed by HDMI makes for easier- and cheaper-to-route cabling. At NAB Show 2008, Gefen provided two sizes of distribution amplifiers (1:4 and 1:8) for HDMI that use an even less expensive alternative: industry-standard Cat-5 cable. Signals can travel up to 300ft. at resolutions to 1080i, and up to 150ft. at resolutions to 1080p. Multichannel audio delivers alongside the video using two Cat-5 cables that connect the HDMI source (sender) to the display (receiver).
