Hardware color correction

Software apps don't offer the only way to color correct video, of course. For years, rack-mounted hardware has offered realtime control over a number of color parameters, with new versions coming in at lower price points. Take Videotek's SDC-101 serial digital video color corrector. Working on SMPTE 259M-C video, the device controls color gain, hue shift, brightness adjustments, gamma, white clip, and soft clip, as well as black clip and stretch. The SDC-101, which uses 10-bit digital processing, can apply changes to the whole video signal or selected components (RGB or YCBCR). Control comes via NLEs, GPIs, timecode triggers, or an optional RCU-102 Remote Control Unit.
