HDV gets versatile
Until recently, HDV didn't fit in well with the traditional broadcast infrastructure. However, manufacturers are now expanding their gear to incorporate the low-cost HD standard. Omneon Video Networks, for example, now supports HDV on its Omneon Spectrum media server system. Pegged as a cost-effective workflow, the Spectrum can capture, edit, and play out both HDV and traditional HD, hewing to the company's “HD in any format” mantra. When used with the 4000 and 4100 Spectrum series servers, HDV, HD, and SD can play out on the same timeline.
