New tape for a new tool
Developing new technologies to improve tape recording sounds retro, but the maturity of tape-based designs delivers both good prices and top capabilities. Fuji Photo Film is now shipping its latest Fujifilm Super DLTtape II tape and cartridge. Its benefits include low self-demagnetization, increased high-frequency output, and a higher recording density, according to the company. The tape, which offers a native capacity of 300GB, works with Quantum's new SDLT 600A tape drive. The 600A features Quantum's DLTxchange, its implementation of the MXF file format, creating a breakthrough product: The system provides a method to transfer HD as data files, instead of pricey VTR-based alternatives.
