Dot-one update costs one-sixth the price of version 4.0. Price: $499
Shake 4.1
Slashing the price to $499, Apple is clearly making a move with Shake 4.1. The company is hoping that at this cost level, Shake follows in the footsteps of Final Cut Pro (from which Shake launches). The idea is that independent compositors will learn the software during their free time, and production companies will suddenly have an easier time finding operators for Shake, which enjoys quite a distinguished pedigree in high-end effects creation. Still a formidable program, Shake 4.1 is the first Universal version for Intel-based Macs.
