Flash Player 9 upgrade
Even as Microsoft touts its Silverlight web initiative, Adobe will soon release an upgraded version of Flash Player 9, which will incorporate support for the H.264 codec. That's the HD codec that's part of every Blu-Ray Disc and HD DVD player, of course. The new Flash spec (code name “Moviestar”) will also feature High Efficiency AAC (HE-AAC) audio support along with hardware acceleration in the form of “multicore-enhanced full-screen video playback,” according to the company. Adobe is developing a complete ecosystem because H.264 playback will be supported by the Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR is a new software platform for creating rich Internet applications running on the desktop) and apps developed with AIR, such as the new Adobe Media Player.
