The 1 Beyond HD D2D-Max functions as both a hard-disk field recorder and an editing drive. The box lets you avoid HDV's 50:1 MPEG-2 compression hit by capturing uncompressed HD directly from the front end of your HDV camcorder via the HD-SDI output. The portable recorder enables an instant camera-to-edit workflow, allowing you to skip the ingest process. The recorder supports uncompressed HD with RAID 3, 5, or 6 protection. According to 1 Beyond, it holds 2.4TB (minus RAID overhead) for up to 20 hours of uncompressed SD, 7.6 hours of uncompressed HD in
8-bit 720p24, or 4.3 hours of 10-bit 1080i30.
