HQ+ codec
Prepping uncompressed HD for display is a continual battle for more bandwidth. To address that, Canopus recently previewed its HQ+ codec, the third software codec option in the company's codec collection for Edius Pro 3. Scalable up to 1920×1080i, the codec uses 4:2:2 color sampling to attain 1920 luma samples and 960 chroma samples per line for a 1920×1080 interlaced frame that provides quality comparable to uncompressed HD, but at about one-fifth the data size, says the company.
