ATI on a roll
Even as Nvidia faces problems, such as a recently filed shareholder lawsuit over its supposed hiding of unprecedented failure rates of its graphics cards, ATI seems to put out a new card that is touted as the fastest in the world on a regular basis.
At SIGGRAPH 2008 time, the Radeon HD 4870 X2topped the charts, along with the pro-oriented FirePro V5700 and V3700.
In September, ATI added a new top-of-the-line card, the FirePro V8700, and a more entry-level-priced card, the V3750 ($200). The V8700 is pricey for some at $1,500, but it offers a 30-bit display, 800 shaders, and 1GB of GDDR5 memory on a PCI Express 2.0 ×16 bus interface. Both cards feature two DisplayPort connectors and a dual-link DVI-I display output. www.ati.com
