Rackmounts in machine rooms were once the best place to hold larger-capacity RAID systems; the size, noise, and cooling requirements of the arrays precluded edit suite installs. No longer. One case in point is the Huge MediaVault U320R Max from Huge Systems. The small but well-regarded manufacturer says its sleek, aluminum enclosure not only aids in cooling, but at 6"×11"×12", it handily fits on a desktop. It's no slouch either. The HMV series delivers storage that scales up to 10TB. Throughput, meanwhile, runs up to 460MBps with the double-linked U320RX Dual Max RAID storage array. The arrays work right out of the box and integrate with all the major NLE systems, says Mike Anderson, company founder and CTO.
