While that phrase might not rival the nightly sportscaster's cry of “Let's go to the tape,” shooters know that alternate recording formats now challenge tape's long reign. Focus Enhancements, which already makes portable Direct To Edit (DTE) recorders for DV25, takes that challenge to the HDV camp with FireStore FS-4 HD and FS-4Pro HD, which work with HDV models from Sony and JVC, among others. After recording camcorder output to the drive via FireWire, you can connect FireStore directly to a Mac/PC notebook or desktop and immediately start editing. The FS-4Pro HD also supports additional file formats, including Avid DV-OMF and Pinnacle AVI.
