Faster Fibre Channel Storage

Although Fibre Channel (FC) storage systems aren't new, there are still not many rigs that can deliver speed, scalability, and error protection while offering a lowball price. Tustin, Calif.-based Medéa thinks it delivers on all that with the recent release of its FCR2/FCR2X FC RAID storage arrays. Both units feature 2Gb FC interfaces, RAID Patrol (a preventative maintenance system that monitors the disk media for errors and improves performance), and Multi-Stream Technology (an embedded stream-handling algorithm that helps to deliver simultaneous realtime playback of multiple streams of uncompressed SD).

VideoRaid FCR2 features a single channel 2Gb FC interface while delivering sustained data transfer rates of 180MBps. Meanwhile, VideoRaid FCR2X comes with dual 2Gb FC interfaces to deliver sustained data transfer rates claimed to reach up to 320MBps, sufficient for handling uncompressed HD. www.medea.com
