VTR to go

Having a portable VTR can come in handy, such as when working at a client's company or on location.

So check out Panasonic's half-rack size AJ-SD255 DVCPRO/DV recorder, a compact, relatively lightweight unit that handles DVCPRO and DV recording and playback with both standard and MiniDV cassettes.

A cassette detection function automatically selects the proper mode, including DVCAM playback. With the optional IEEE 1394 digital interface, the AJ-SD255 can send and receive data in both DVCPRO and DV formats and even convert between the two.

It also offers a function that converts the “unlocked audio” recording during DV input to “locked audio.” That's key when posting with any NLE app. Other features include video I/O (BNC × 3) for composite, component, or YC signals; a two-channel 48kHz/16-bit digital audio I/O; and one analog cue track. www.panasonic.com/broadcast
