RAID for Less

For Mac-based post work, Apple's Xserve RAID delivers the goods with its sleek, well-thought-out architecture. But if keeping costs low is your prime directive, consider what the DR Group has come up with: Its DRaid SATA RAID storage drive, aimed at the Final Cut Pro market, delivers a gigabyte-per-dollar ratio it claims is well below other comparable storage offerings.

For years, the DR group has provided stock media along with hardware sales and rental to the Los Angeles-based production and post markets. While the company sells Apple gear, the DRaid marks its first Mac OEM offering. The DRaid array, available in four- and eight-drive configurations, scales up to 3.2TB. Features include a reinforced aluminum chassis with rubber shock-mounted drive mounts and an LCD display for individual drive activity time and temperature readout. www.thedrgroup.com
