FireWire and USB drives are easy and ultra-portable, but Serial ATA drives are faster — and can be just as portable if you install an adapter in your host system(s). Sonnet Technologies has introduced the Tempo SATA Express 34 host adapter for Mac and Windows laptops. The PCIe adapter is a Serial ATA controller with two external SATA II ports that provide 3Gbps throughput. Supporting up to 10 disk drives when using port-multiplier drive enclosures, the Tempo SATA Express 34 can achieve write speeds up to 100MBps (not Mbps) and read up to 110MBps.
