In early June, Avid announced it was shipping its new HD editing systems and VideoRAID storage products. Originally announced during NAB Show 2008, the revamped product line is part of company's hoped-for revitalization. The Tewksbury, Mass.-based company faces tough times, according to a June article on the Barron's website — although J.P. Morgan Securities analyst Paul Coster is quoted as saying that the new price cuts position Avid “to better defend against share loss to Apple's Final Cut Pro.” As a practical matter, users will appreciate that all Media Composer software — from the $2,495 software-only version on up — now offers the same software toolset, simplifying use within facilities and production departments.
