3ware Sidecar
For external storage, FireWire is certainly not the fastest interface. SATA II provides a transfer rate of up to 3Gbps vs. 800Mbps for IEEE 1394. AMCC takes advantage of SATA II technology with its 3ware Sidecar, designed for Apple Power Mac G5 systems. The RAID controller connects via 4xPCI Express and can be configured for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10. The four-bay Sidecar desktop storage enclosure houses up to 3TB of data if you use 750GB SATA II drives. Each drive has a dedicated channel to the RAID controller.
