Bright Systems BrightDrive G2

Eliminates the need for lengthy and unpredictable performance-maintenance routines. Price: Upon request

Who needs a new file system format? Bright Systems thinks you do, and it introduced its BrightDrive G2 file-based recording system at NAB Show 2009 to prove its point.

The Reno, Nev.-based company, which mainly makes a variety of storage and interface gear, developed the file format to better work with the massive data files used by digital film and video facilities and broadcasting companies. The general idea is to fight data randomization in IT systems, which degrades post systems over time.

Helpfully, the BrightDrive G2 format is compatible with all the various file-based media applications and file formats you are likely to come across. (Companies including Da Vinci Systems, LaserGraphics, FilmLight, and Arri already support the company’s BrightClip Accelerator API.)
