A growing number of storage and graphics products are making use of the latest, higher-speed generation PCI Express (PCIe) bus. The 3ware Sidecar from AMCC is one: It works with PC and Apple workstations, and the kit includes a four-port, low-profile PCIe-to-3Gb SATA II RAID controller; a four-bay desktop enclosure; and a multilane, high-bandwidth SATA cable. Features include StorSwitch non-blocking switch fabric for optimum controller throughput, RAID management and configuration suite, StreamFusion (optimizes RAID 5 disk access), and battery backup support.
