256-bit AES hardware encryption secure enough to protect info up to the classified level. Price: $139
DCDCS256S
Sometimes you're working with data and images that just need to be kept private. Although drives featuring incorporated encryption are available, they can be pricey. Addonics recently announced the Diamond Cipher Drive Cartridge system, model DCDCS256S, which allows users to turn any SATA hard drive into a 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) hardware-encrypted removable disk. That means you are no longer restricted to buying a full disk-encryption Seagate or Hitachi GST drive. Addonics claims the Diamond Cipher enclosure — which needs only a simple encryption key — can provide native SATA encryption on the fly with no detectable performance degradation to the hard drive.
