New techniques and new design ideas will help you pump up your prowess in After Effects
Jayse Hansen
It's hard to imagine anybody who gets more excited about motion graphics and visual effects than Jayse Hansen. An award-winning motion graphics designer who's also taught classes and created instructional videos about After Effects, Hansen exhibits an enthusiasm for the program that's infectious. It's no surprise, then, why he was chosen as Tech Chair for the After Effects track at the NAB Post|Production World Conference. The track, "Advanced Motion Graphics with Adobe After Effects," consists of more than 20 sessions that Hansen promises will enable AE users to work faster and be more creative.
"Most of the classes this year focus on essential design elements of After Effects that are not taught in-depth anywhere else," Hansen says. "We'll be offering step-by-step techniques that you can start using right away, and we'll be deconstructing specific projects that show how pros use this powerful tool every day."
Among those who'll be deconstructing past projects is Mark Coleran, who has designed and animated the onscreen graphics for numerous films including Tomb Raider, The World is Not Enough, and Harry Potter. In his session, "Deconstructed: Screen Graphics and Simulations," Coleran will offer a look at work processes and animation techniques, going from Photoshop to After Effects. Attendees will also learn about reduced color palette issues as well as faking interactivity for on-set graphics.
In his own session, "Special Techniques that Clients Want," Hansen will discuss current motion graphic design trends. "I'll be showing students not only how to achieve them," he says, "but , even better, how to alter them, improve on them, and make them yours." Those who want to speed up their After Effects workflow will want to be sure to catch the kick-off session on Saturday entitled "Render Faster, Wait Less, Play More."
Seasoned AE pros can expect to get a huge jump on all the new AE features and technology that have been released in the last year.
"A lot of people charge on a project basis, and speeding up their workflow would not only give them more time to spend with family and friends, but would also result in them making more money," says Hansen, "I teach this class to After Effects professionals, and I'm always amazed at how little they know about using Proxies, Render Regions, customized RAM Previews, GridIron RAM-Previews and setting up a simple render farm."
Indeed, says Hansen, regardless of whether you are an After Effects beginner or an After Effects expert, the sessions in this track will offer lots of valuable, exclusive information.
"There is going to be an amazing amount of instruction you can't find anywhere else. Tons of design, speed and efficiency improvement tips," he asserts, "No matter how much I think I've mastered, I always come home from this conference with a full notebook of exciting new tricks and inspirations. And in the creative field we all work in, that's priceless." –SP
