The whole point of using non-tape recording methods is saving time — no digitization and no rolling tape all the way through. But users of Focus Enhancements' hard disk-based FireStore recorders for Sony, Canon, and JVC HDV camcorders previously had to either capture or convert their footage prior to using it in Apple Final Cut Pro. With version 2.0 of the software for the FS-4Pro HD, FS-C, and DR-HD100 recorders, that step is now moot. FireStore recorders equipped with the new software now extract and decode the audio from the incoming HDV stream, combine it with the video stream, and wrap both as a QuickTime file.
