Tut Systems Previews High-Definition Compression Technology at NAB 2006
Apr 26, 2006 8:00 AM
Tut Systems, an industry leader enabling the delivery of next-generation data and video services over broadband networks, is showcasing its MPEG-4 AVC high-definition compression capabilities for the first time at the annual National Association of Broadcasters convention in Las Vegas.
MPEG-4 AVC HD compression is critical for IPTV service providers seeking to deliver pristine HDTV over copper access networks. While today's MPEG-2 HDTV is compressed to approximately 19Mbps, with MPEG-4 AVC compression in Tut Systems' carrier-class Astria content processor product line, service providers will see bandwidths below 10Mbps.
This is a critical threshold for ensuring that IPTV service providers can deliver HDTV over advanced DSL networks that are constrained to bandwidths below 15Mbps to accommodate the HD service along with voice, data, and other TV channels.
