Telecast’s SCamp Increases Range of SMPTE Hybrid Camera Cables
Apr 26, 2006 8:00 AM
Telecast Fiber Systems has announced a new SMPTE cable amplifier, called the SCamp, that allows broadcasters to extend the operating distance of their SMPTE fiber-equipped cameras from Sony and Ikegami. According to the company, the SCamp is the industry’s first fiber-optic repeater for SMPTE 311M hybrid fiber/wire cable systems.
“The practical distance limit of hybrid camera cables can be a function of fiber attenuation, optical connector loss, or electrical power loss,” says Eugene Baker, CTO of Telecast Fiber Systems.
“Our new SCamp SMPTE cable amplifiers provide an optical power boost to overcome both of these optical limitations. This means that broadcasters will be able to take their cameras farther from the base station, without concern for an accompanying reduction in signal quality,” he adds.
