Telecast Fiber Systems introduced its CopperHead "Generation Two" at the recent NAB show. The second generation of Telecast’s camera-mounted fiber-optic system enables graceful, cost-effective upgrades to newer ENG and EFP camera technologies. The CopperHead G2 is designed to support virtually any professional camera or camcorder, giving broadcasters the ability to accommodate current and future generations of camera systems easily and inexpensively.

“The new modular implementation of our widely used CopperHead is completely format independent and allows users to simply swap out modules in order to integrate with any camera or camcorder, whether it is analog or digital, standard- or high-definition, and regardless of whether it records to tape, disk, or solid state memory," says Richard A. Cerny, president of Telecast Fiber Systems.

CopperHead G2 provides full triax-like functionality for professional camcorders via a single, lightweight tactical fiber-optic cable—or via SMPTE hybrid cable for those who want to power their cameras remotely—and delivers signal quality that outperforms triax systems in all respects.

The interface supports all signals between the camera and the 1RU base station, including bidirectional analog composite or component video, digital SDI and HD/SDI video, multiple audio, two channels of intercom, full camera control, multiple data paths for control of external devices, and transport of metadata and Ethernet.
