FreshDirect’s 5,850-square-foot LED display shows full-color video promotional information at more than 8,000 NITS for high visibility in direct sunlight.
Located next to the Queens Midtown Tunnel, New York, FreshDirect’s 5,850-square-foot LED display, the largest in the United States according to the company, shows full-color video promotional information. Images are transmitted at 600Mbps via fiber-optic cable from FreshDirect’s Long Island headquarters.
The display produces more than 8,000 NITS, providing high visibility in daytime as well as nighttime. In order to accomplish this, fiber-optic solutions from Opticomm are used.
Opticomm has provided a modified DVX-5000 model, which conforms to the SMPTE 259 M standards for uncompressed SDI. It normally supports data rates that range from 143Mbps to 540Mbps, with transmission ranges up to 25 miles.
Opticomm met FreshDirect’s special requirements by customizing the DVX-5000 to send signals at data rates of 600Mbps. “FreshDirect recognizes the need for advanced high-quality technology, particularly for digital signal transmissions, and we are excited to work with a technology leader like Opticomm Corporation to develop premier solutions,” says John Boris, VP of marketing and business development at FreshDirect.
“This project illustrates the ability of Opticomm’s transport systems to work with Lighthouse Superscreen LED systems to deliver live streaming media in broadcast qualitydigital Signage at its best,” says David Caidar, president of Opticomm. "As digital transmission becomes an increasingly important part of everyday communications, Opticomm continues to explore new and innovative transmission systems.”
