Oregon3D® Inc., The Academy for Digital Arts & SciencesSM, today announced its second annual Oregon3D Film Camp. Scheduled for August 15 – August 27, 2004 at Oregon3D, students from around the world will partake in this film school camp and engage in the process of creating a short film collectively. Under the guidance of award-winning director, Mike Wellins of Happy Hour Entertainment (previously from Will Vinton Studios), students will work step-by-step through the entire film production process and come away with a well-rounded experience of modern filmmaking and an actual short film for their demo reel.

“Film Camp is designed to go beyond hands-on, and offers burgeoning filmmakers a real world experience from start to finish,” said Mike Wellins, award-winning director. “Film Camp students will not only walk away from this experience with a deeper understanding of the filmmaking process, but with legitimate scenes and shots to start or add to their own demo reel, the most important calling card in the production business.”

The camp will begin with a location shoot using 35mm film, guide students through digital transferring, editing, 3D special effects production and animation, screen dailies, and finish with final film post and output. During the two-week camp, students will have access to Oregon3D’s cutting-edge facilities, state-of-the-art systems (every workstation has a hi-resolution wide screen display) and industry standard tools such as 3ds max™, combustion®, Maya™ and MOTIONBUILDER™. In addition to all the production and behind-the-scenes work, students will also star in the film, enabling them to see both sides of the camera and help them bond with the project since it is their face they are compositing in to the film.

“Film Camp really opened my eyes to a new understanding of filmmaking,” said Emily Hahnel, 2003 Film Camp participant. “Last year’s Film Camp was an awesome experience and I would recommend it to any aspiring filmmaker.”

The camp also features a variety of lectures with industry professionals and arranges tours with some of the professional studios and facilities in Portland. The final day of camp will include a special screening of the created film in the Oregon3D Theatre. When the camp is over, students will take home a great experience, a DVD and VHS copy of the final film, along with a new credit to add to their reel. Oregon3D may also submit the film to festivals and competitions.
