On Tuesday, April 25, Technical Editor Dan Ochiva met with Eric Schmidt, group product manager of the Windows Digital Media Division at Microsoft. The two discussed the implications of SMPTE’s recent release of the VC-1 standard, and how Microsoft’s VC-1 codec had been selected by Universal Pictures for its HD-DVD library. The conversation moved to other delivery mechanisms for Windows Media video, including cellular, tools to support the new distribution outlets, and new media-related features in Microsoft Vista.
