One Show TV Winners for 2002 Make DVD Debut
Dec 13, 2002 12:00 PM, Press Release
Discreet, Maker of Flame and Inferno, Sponsors Introduction of Fast-Growing Format
One Show televisions winners will be making their DVD debut soon as the One Club for Art Copy is set to publish its 24th annual collection of award-winning print, radio, and television ads on Dec. 17, 2002. Sponsored by Discreet Systems, maker of the Flame and Inferno visual-effects software programs widely used in the production of TV commercials, the DVD will accompany the print edition of the coveted One Show Annual. Also being released on that date will be a separate annual for the One Show Interactive awards.
Full credits for the TV winners will be included in the print version of the annual, along with an audio CD that will contain all the radio winners and a section devoted to the new One Show Design competition.
As part of its sponsorship agreement with Discreet, all One Show television winners that were produced or postproduced utilizing Discreet visual effects systems will appear in a special section of the DVD devoted to outstanding visual effects work. This section has a branded opening displaying the Discreet logo.
"We're pleased to honor the outstanding work of One Club members and their creative achievements using Discreet's flame and inferno visual effects systems," says David Sampson, vice president of sales and marketing, Discreet Systems. "By combining advertising artists' inspired talent with Discreet systems' powerful feature sets, everyone can experience the rich visions that would appear otherwise only in the minds of a few."
Discreet's Academy Award-winning visual-effects systems have become an industry standard in the postproduction of television commercials. The systems' ease of use and fluidity has changed the way advertising creative people think, since now just about any visual concept imaginable can be easily brought to life.
"Discreet changed everything about the visual effects business," says Johnnie Semerad, president and creative director of Quiet Man, the New York-based company that performed all the digital compositing on the One Show's 2001 Best of Show-winning campaign for Fox Sports. "Flame is relatively inexpensive and easy to maintain, and what used to take a handful of people to accomplish now takes just one. The whole process has been democratized. So now the number of double-pointed metal pencils you have is not related to your ability to raise capital or maintain equipment, but is instead a reflection of how creative you are."
"We're thrilled to have the One Show television winners on DVD, and grateful to Discreet Systems for making this possible," says Mary Warlick, executive director of the One Club. "The advertising industry is moving steadily to this new format, which offers so many advantages to videotape or CD-ROM. We feel that the archival value of our broadcast winners will be greatly enhanced by this new release."
