Lightwave speeds up
With the debut of LightWave version 9.3, NewTek puts the emphasis on improving the 3D app's rendering capabilities. As part of the free upgrade, users will now be able to render lines with photorealistic motion blur, as well as deploy two new sub-surface scattering shaders that are said to be significantly faster than earlier shaders.
For many artists who work in an iterative fashion, trying many different variations of textures, for example, to find the right fit, the recent inclusion of a node-based interface might make the program even more attractive. In demos at Siggraph, the node's ability to link new operations quickly—and the program's inherent speed—allowed the artist to speedily run through many variations and render out results. www.newtek.com
