Fast SAS and virtual tape
At October's Storage Networking World conference in Dallas, Atto Technology presented the latest updates to its ExpressSAS SAS/SATA RAID adapters and FastStream virtual tape (VT) appliance. The adapters employ DVRAID, a modified parity-protected RAID 0 that supports multiple streams of HD video plus alpha-channel titles and features latency support for audio editing apps. VT, which uses hard drives to emulate tape backup, is on tap with Atto's FastStream VT appliance. The product is practical: It allows you to use JBOD or RAID arrays to create a virtual tape setup without the cost of additional servers or software. Expect support for Linux, Microsoft Vista, and Mac OS X operating systems. www.attotech.com
