Panasonic P2 Varicam

Panasonic's new Varicam(s)

Some six years after the debut of the original Varicam, Panasonic follows it up with two models sporting higher-res CCDs, P2 storage, and the new AVC-Intra 100 codec. The Varicam 3700 features full native 10-bit 1920×1080-pixel acquisition (using new 2/3in. 2.2-megapixel CCDs) and a 4:4:4 RGB dual-link live output. There's also 4:2:2 AVC-Intra 50 and DVCPRO HD recording, if you're not intent on compositing or other heavy-duty post.

The Varicam 2700 uses 2/3in. HD-res CCDs (1080×720) while keeping most of the other specs similar to the 3700.

Both cameras feature five P2 card slots. If you load them with five 32GB P2 cards, you can record up to 200 minutes in AVC-Intra 100 at 1080/24p, or 400 minutes in AVC-Intra 100 at 720/24p. Audio comes in at four channels of digital 48kHz/16 bit. www.panasonic.com/broadcast
