JMR's storage innovations

Although much of the technology behind storage hasn't changed for a while, recent innovations such as PCI-connected storage look to offer faster, more flexible gear at lower price points. JMR Electronics' BlueStor PeSAN RAID storage is a good example. Each PeSAN storage shelf is a self-contained 3RU RAID subsystem, which contains a low-cost SAS RAID controller that plugs directly into a BlueStor PCIe slot in a removable I/O module. Because the setup makes use of the latest high-speed PCI 2.0 motherboard slots, there's no need for a bridge conversion of parallel-to-serial-bus technologies such as SCSI, Fibre Channel, or Infiniband. Using that one serial bus connection all the way through from the host PCI bus to the disk drives allows JMR to offer high-performance, wide-bandwidth storage at a very low cost per gigabyte, according to the company. www.jmr.com
