eQ and iQ

It's not a particularly flashy technology. But AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) is catching on as another metadata type — MXF, a subtype of AAF — gains acceptance in production. (See www.aafassociation.org for more.)

Quantel, long an active supporter of AAF for post, now offers AAF offline-to-online interchange tools. Users of its eQ and iQ Post and DI systems can now import extensive AAF project information created offline from Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Media Composer Adrenaline.

Quantel tools can synch the low-res proxies on the fly to the full-res for quick finishing. The AAF metadata set includes segment names, effects transitions, complex effects descriptors, and layer priority data. www.quantel.com
