Celco goes Linux
Until recently, Celco film recorders have ran on sturdy but pricey Irix-based SGI gear. While Linux has already found a place in high-end post, the increasingly popular open-source software will now be used in all new Celco digital film recording systems. According to John Constantine, director of marketing for Celco, the company made the move because the software is stable and many post facilities are now incorporating it into their workflow.
Based on Red Hat Linux and speedy Intel dual dual-core processors, Celco systems include the Fury and Firestorm 2X film recorders. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based company says it will continue to support customers running on the SGI Irix platform. www.celco.com
