Dalsa's solution to data generation
Anyone involved in working with the raw, uncompressed files generated by high-end digital cinema cameras knows that dealing with all that massive amount of data in the field is just the beginning — handling it throughout the postproduction pipeline becomes even more of a concern.
One interesting solution is that taken by Dalsa's Digital Cinema division. In a recent announcement, the company explained that it would be partnering with Sohonet Solutions to deliver 4K data generated by Dalsa cameras for use in post. Rob Hummel, president of Dalsa Digital Cinema, had worked with the Sohonetteam when he was at Warner Bros., and he was pleased enough with their capabilities that he will offer them for use on projects that use Dalsa gear. “They had the distinction of being the only supplier that actually delivered on what they said they would,” Hummel says.
Sohonet Solutions is the new consulting arm of Sohonet, the London-based company that provides high-speed link ups for media transfer among top international production facilities. Sohonet Solutions will help handle 2K/4K digital capture, data storage, facility networking, on-set data management, and system design.
