Iron Man

Iron Man in HD

Editor Dan Lebental, A.C.E., recently chatted with millimeter about his recent work cutting the newest entry into the superhero feature-film sweepstakes—Marvel’s Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. That story appears in the upcoming March/April issue of millimeter, and in the piece, Lebental talks extensively about his major challenge and accomplishment on the project—editing Iron Man within a workflow relying on Avid’s new DNxHD 36 codec. For the project, Lebental’s team relied on eight Avid Adrenaline Media Composers (quad core Mac Pro workstations with 24in. Dell LCD monitors and one with a 30in. Sony LCD monitor) networked into 16TB of Unity storage.

It was the first major studio feature film to cut all the way through in HD, and Lebental absolutely loved the change—even though he concedes there were some hiccups and roadblocks along the way.
