Adidas
“Performance”

David Beckham takes on an elaborately abstracted playing field in a 16:9 spot that will air only in Adidas stores in support of its “Impossible Field” branding campaign. To create the unique geography, 2D and 3D graphics were combined with live footage and stills that were sliced up and animated to create an extreme motion effect similar to super-slo-mo. Sound design furthered the metallic theme, drawing a cello bow across a variety of metal sheets. Design and Production Company: Metaphrenie, Berlin; Creative Directors/Designers: Andrea Dionisio, Mike Helmle; Lead 3D/CG Animator: Marc René Schmid; 3D-CG Animators: Jan-Mathias Steinforth, John Brennick; Rotoscope: Rayk Hemmerling; Live-Action Production: Big Fish Filmproduktion, Berlin; Director: Metaphrenie; Original Music/Sound Design: Xaver Naudascher; Sound Designer: Alexander Hacke.

Fruit of the Loom
“You Can't Over Love Your Underwear”

The Fruit Guys strike just the right amount of twang in this :60 contemporary country parody. Moody lyrics about T-shirts and tightie whities must truly inspire those men in fruit suits. The voice comes courtesy of Collin Raye. Has anyone contacted CMT yet? Agency: The Richards Group, Dallas; Production: Uncle, Santa Monica, Calif.; Director: Wayne Holloway; DP: Ramsey Nickell; Telecine: Beau Leon, The Syndicate; Editor: Jack Waldrip, Charlieuniformtango, Austin, Texas; Effects: WestFX, Los Angeles.

Minnesota State Lottery
“Road Trip”

A giant red Powerball menaces two men in a car after one of them admits he “only plays when it's big.” BWN's sound effects identify the ball with evil while Ken Brahmstedt's eerie score, composed in the witching hour between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. over two nights, sets the mood. Agency: Colle & McVoy, Minneapolis; Production: Drive-Thru Films, Minneapolis and Shooters, Toronto; Director: Kranky; DP: Jeff Stonehouse; Online Editor: Bob George; Original Music/Sound Design: BWN, Minneapolis; Composer: Ken Brahmstedt; Sound Design: Carl White; Editorial: Fischer, Minneapolis; Editor: Randy Kramer; Colorist: Oscar Oboza, Hi-Wire, Minneapolis.

Orange Film Commission
“Charity”

Movie execs encourage Ewan McGregor to lighten up his movie about poverty in Africa by getting starving African kids to “do a little rap.” Instead, the hot young Scot flashes a number to text for donations to the worthy cause. The light approach to a heavy subject benefitted from improvised performances and quick edits on an Avid Media Composer and Xpress DV. Agency: Mother, London/New York; Production: Hungry Man, London; Director: Bryan Buckley; Editorial: Peepshow Postproductions, London; Editor: Spencer Ferszt; Assist Editor: Kevin Palmer.
