Pier 1 Imports “Indian Rug”

An exotic yet architectural kaleidoscopic print morphs into a woollen rug in this spot directed by Swede Jonas Odell. AIDS Research Center in Wisconsin “Focus on the Negative”

A man in an orange shirt on a bus walks toward a white bar, which he literally takes into his hands. He turns the bar to reveal the slogan, “Focus on the Negative.” The white bar was tracked across the screen in Adobe After Effects. The spot was shot using 35mm film for a high-contrast, monochromatic look that would cause viewers to focus on the colorful shirt, highlighted with Da Vinci's Colorist Toolbox. Agency: Kohnke Hanneken, Milwaukee; Production: Phasmatrope Studios, Haverford, Pa.; Directors: The Odiorne Brothers; Postproduction: Shooters Post & Transfer, Philadelphia; Graphic Artist: Kris Magyarits; Colorist: Janet Falcon.

McDonald's “Patio”

Female coworkers literally become animated by their “fruit buzz” from the new Fruit & Walnut salad. Autodesk 3ds Max was used to create the 3D images of the women based on illustrations by David Duong. Agency: Burrell Communications Group, Chicago; Live-Action Production: Phils Films, Venice, Calif.; Animation/Editorial: Wit Animation, Venice, Calif.; Director/Editor: Jeb Milne; DP: Austin Smithard; Designer/Illustrator: David Duong; Animation Editor/Compositor: Andrew Racho; Postproduction: The Syndicate, Santa Monica, Calif.; Colorist: Bob Curreri; Fame/Compositor: Kevin Prendiville; Music/Sound Design: Groove Addicts, Santa Monica; Composer: Tim Wynn; Sound Designer: Kim Christensen; Audio Post: Margarita Mix, Santa Monica; Mixer: Jeff Levy.

Giro “Famous”

A twerpy kid wears his cyclist older brother's helmet to feel like a famous rider. His illicit cruise is accompanied by an Italian-sounding score and the sounds of cheerful cowbells, the exclamations of a man in a devil costume, and the cheers of townsfolk in the marketplace. Agency: Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami; Production: Little Minx @ RSA, New York; Director: Josh Miller; DP: Jan Stastny; Production Services: Stillking Films, Prague, Czech Republic; Editorial/Sound Design/Audio Post: Final Cut, New York; Editor: Sarah Iben; Postproduction: Company 3 and The Mill, New York, Colorist: Tim Masick; Flame/Online Editor: Richard DeCarteret; Music: Shangri-la Productions, Lexington, Ky.; Composers: Duane Lundy, Dave Hadland; Sound Designer: Terressa Tate; Mixer: Roland Alley.
