Editor's Notes

Last year, we did a major upgrade to our online virtual press conference resource, The Briefing Room. This daily compilation of industry press releases from more than 250 member publicists is the first place to find product news — often even before the manufacturers posts the information to their own sites.
In addition to being open to member publicists, The Briefing Room is also a valuable resource for members of our Reel-Exchange community. Within the same easy, blog-based interface, artists and facilities can post news of their projects, galleries, tutorials, facility news, etc. This news is then instantly available to readers at digitalcontentproducer.com, as well as on the Reel-Exchange.com homepage.
Some of our Reel-Exchange members have publicists, some do not. Either way, I would encourage you to take advantage of the thousands of weekly page views that The Briefing Room receives, and the chance to put your news in front of your peers at Reel-Exchange. The postings can be full-blown press releases with art, or they can take a more informal approach — a quick newsbite about a project you worked on, a nod to a client who has done something cool in your facility, a brief tutorial on a technical breakthrough you've made, or maybe something about new gear or capabilities you've added. One important feature of The Briefing Room is the ability to save drafts and/or to schedule posts to be published at a future date. This allows you to build your news announcement in advance (for example before a tradeshow or film festival) and publish at a timely moment.
Briefing Room is also where our editors look for interesting news releases to pursue — more so than in our inboxes, where we concentrate on NDA and prerelease information, as well as exclusive pitches. If you want to get the word out, it's a good stream to be in. It's not a substitute for our journalistic efforts, but it's a good baseline source of data that frees us to concentrate on reporting and analyzing.
The Briefing Room is open to all member publicists as well as all members of Reel-Exchange. Publicists can join and get user names, passwords, and technical support from Senior Associate Editor Lucy Sutton at briefingroom@digitalcontentproducer.com. Reel-Exchange members can do the same through Community Manager Craig Erpelding at support@reel-exchange.com. Both editors will be happy to answer any questions and help you determine how best to use The Briefing Room and Reel-Exchange to publicize your successes.
Don't forget to tune into our NAB blog at blog.digitalcontentproducer.com/nab for onsite insights from the show; The Briefing Room also has an extensive NAB Newslink with show-related press releases at blog.digitalcontentproducer.com/briefingroom/category/2008-nab-newslink.
