Manhattan Transfer Miami (MTM), a premiere post house serving the region, has taken delivery of a new Thomson Grass Valley Spirit HD Telecine to support its launch in August of a full range of digital intermediate and high-definition (HD) television services for its advertising agency clients. It’s the first Spirit HD system sold in the Southeast U.S.
As part of its new business model to help support the new Spirit HD system in the market, MTM has entered into a unique co-marketing and joint business partnership with Continental Film & Digital Labs (CFL), also located in Miami. Continental operates a full-service 16mm – 35mm and 70mm film laboratory and standard-definition (SD) video transfer facility. Now with the new relationship commencing with Manhattan Transfer Miami, CFL can offer both HD and SD facilities to its clients.
Under terms of the agreement, Continental’s colorists will have access to the Spirit as well as a full range of post services performed daily at MTM and Manhattan Transfer’s staff will be able to leverage Continental’s film processing resources and technology; thus making both facilities a “one-stop-shop” for their respective clients.
“It’s clear to us that having the Sprit HD system will bring us new revenue from those agencies looking to move their production from SD to HD resolution,” says Bob Corti, general manager of Manhattan Transfer Miami, adding that the two organizations have done business together for years. “The Spirit HD will make both companies more competitive in this market, no doubt about it.”
Most of MTM’s business is currently providing SD post services (video editing, effects compositing, and color correction) for commercial production. By purchasing the Spirit HD system, the company expects to see increased business from clients looking to post on the Spirit system who have gone elsewhere before. As one of the first projects to use the Spirit HD system, CFL will transfer HD footage of the latest NASA space hhuttle launch for critical analysis.
